Being a victim of emotional abuse specifically leads to a significant increase in depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. As a collaborative professional, it is imperative that you ask about a person’s history of abuse, including emotional/psychological abuse. Surviving emotional abuse can impact problem-solving style, and this needs to be taken into account when determining the best way to help clients.
