SUMMARY:Anxiety Disorders in Children and Adolescents: Recognizing & Treating the Emerging Epidemic - Plano\, TX
DESCRIPTION:Seminar – Anxiety Disorders in Children and Adolescents: Recognizing & Treating the Emerging Epidemic\nDetails:\nThe increasing rate of stress and trauma to children\, which includes divorce\, family breakdown\, violence in society\, the media\, and a failing school system\, has produced a “shell shocked” generation suffering from anxiety in many cases. The challenge for clinicians is to recognize anxiety in children and help them cope.Stephanie Sarkis\, Ph.D.\, will teach you how and why anxiety develops in children and adolescents. She will present practical treatment strategies that can be applied immediately. The seven key anxiety disorders along with case examples to be addressed include: \n\n\n\nSeparation anxiety disorder\nPanic disorder\nOveranxious disorder\nObsessive-compulsive disorder\nSocial anxiety disorder\nPhobias\nPost-traumatic stress disorder\n\n\n\nOther co-occurring disorders (e.g. behavior problems\, medical conditions\, depression\, ADHD\, learning disabilities\, selective mutism) will also be discussed. Emphasis will be on creative interventions involving insight-oriented\, cognitive-behavioral\, biological\, mindfulness\, expressive arts and family systems approaches.

SUMMARY:Changing the ADHD Brain: Moving Beyond Medication - Montgomery\, AL
DESCRIPTION:Changing the ADHD Brain: Moving Beyond Medication – Montgomery\, AL\nCourse Description: \nMany persons diagnosed with ADHD prefer not to take medication. There are various reasons for this including side effects and concerns with long-term use. In this seminar\, you will learn more about these reasons\, as well as alternative interventions for ADHD. \nLooking at ADHD from a developmental perspective\, we will consider reasons for the apparent increase in ADHD diagnoses over the past two decades. By understanding the way the brain works in ADHD\, you will be able to better identify a variety of strategies to significantly impact the nervous system and positively influence symptoms of ADHD in your clients. \nNot only will you walk away with information about some of the most common non-medication interventions for ADHD such as computerized cognitive training\, mindfulness meditation and neurofeedback\, you will also learn a variety of practical strategies that can be implemented immediately and at low cost. \nWe will navigate the vast research on exercise\, movement\, diet\, sleep\, disruptive technologies\, supplements and the impact of the environment on ADHD\, summarizing the findings and applying the information to “real life”. SUMMARY:2017 CHADD Annual International Conference on ADHD - Atlanta\, GA
DESCRIPTION:“More Than Just Medication: Proven Non-Medication Treatments for ADHD”\nIn your practice\, you will find clients/patients with an ADHD diagnosis who prefer not to take medication. There are various reasons for this – and in this seminar you will learn these reasons\, and you will discover what other treatment options are available. The more you know the “whys” of your client’s choice of treatment\, the better quality of care you can provide them. Medications available for treating ADHD\, including the benefits and side effects will be discussed. You will learn the myths surrounding medication\, and how to help your client/patient make the most informed choice about their treatment. \nNot only will you walk away with the most common non-medication treatments for ADHD in this seminar\, you will also know the safety and efficacy of each treatment. This information is very valuable when considering referring a client/patient for ADHD treatment. You will also learn how much these treatments cost\, and if the possible benefits outweigh the financial impact on the client/patient. \nThe use of nutraceuticals/supplements will be discussed – both how they can impact the central nervous system and why it is important to find a producer with good quality assurance. Diet can make a difference in treating ADHD – but not in the way you might think. You will leave with more knowledge about the research purporting a link between pesticides and ADHD. Dr. Sarkis\, a psychotherapist and published author with more than 15 years of experience in treating ADHD\, will show you the path to determining the best ADHD client/patient treatment. \nCredit: CME \nRegister for the Conference Here!\n \n

SUMMARY:Ten Best-Ever Anxiety Treatment Techniques - Metairie\, LA
DESCRIPTION:Ten Best-Ever Anxiety Treatment Techniques – Metairie\, LA\nDr. Stephanie Sarkis will assist you in shaping the 10 best-ever anxiety techniques to your needs and will discuss: \n\nHow to apply the techniques in difficult cases\nHow these techniques apply to different age groups\nHow these techniques can help with clients who have co-morbid diagnoses\nHow to use these techniques with groups or individuals and in different types of psychological services: private practice\, hospital units\, classrooms\, nursing facilities\, etc.\n\nThis fresh approach will give you a complete set of tools to work with anxiety symptoms. Cutting-edge research tells clinicians not only what is new\, but also tells us why what we have done best over the years works to help clients achieve positive results in therapy. In this seminar\, you will learn\, practice and be ready to apply 10 techniques that really work to stop symptoms of panic\, worry and social anxiety. \nThese 10 proven methods can control most symptoms of panic\, generalized anxiety and social anxiety. Through in-seminar practice and discussing case vignettes to illustrate their applications – you can make them strong\, effective and lasting interventions. Methods that control physiology: diaphragmatic breathing\, reducing tension\, and mindful awareness to offset panic or acute anxiety can be easy to learn but not simple to apply. We will discuss how to make them effective with different age groups and difficult clients to obtain the best results for calming panic and dread. Likewise\, controlling the cognitive problems of anxiety\, such as catastrophizing or ruminatively worrying\, challenge most with anxiety. Learn powerful techniques that cool off worry\, and challenge faulty cognitions – the obstacles to improving panic and social anxiety. You can help your clients identify and change the ways they avoid their social anxiety. Case examples will clarify planned re-entry to triggering situations\, handling the stress of preparation and conducting ‘in vivo exposure’. \n\n\n\n\n\nObjectives: \n\nUse 10 important techniques that will help your clients “use the brain to change the brain”.\nApply the 4 competencies of stress management to improve health\, quality of life and reduce anxiety\, including lifestyle changes\, cognitive interventions and time management tools.\nEmploy techniques to prevent panic: “Prepare to be there without the scare” and manage panic events so there is less fear of fear.\nDemonstrate how to make breathing really work and utilize relaxation methods in stress rebound.\nIllustrate how memory reconsolidation helps your clients identify their triggers and interrupt the common cognitions that set off panic attacks.\nPractice techniques to interrupt and “erase the trace” of persistent worries and understand how this changes the neurobiology of ruminative thinking.\nApply cognitive interventions to manage perfectionism\, procrastination and rigid approaches to problems.\nSelect techniques for “calm\, competent and confident” approaches to exposures and utilize memory reconsolidation principles that minimize social anxiety and increase successful participation in performance and everyday social experiences for all age groups.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Register Here for the Seminar!
