In praise of my parents

Not only do I love my parents, I genuinely like them. I think they are pretty cool people. All 3 of them. (Mom, Dad, & Stepmom). I even still go on vacations with my parents. And I really enjoy it. I’ve been battling strep for the last couple of days, and I spent some time [...]

Yes, I know.

Yes, I am aware that Princeton Review ranked UF as the #1 party school in the nation. Yes, this is the school I got four degrees from. Yes, I did have fun during my extended Gator tour. Yes, I did (and still do) go to the football and basketball games. Yes, I did attempt to [...]

How I know I’m sick.

The strep bug I had a month ago has come back with a vengance.  Here’s how I knew that I was getting sick again: 1.  I got in the car and Rush Limbaugh was on the radio.  I made no attempt to turn the radio off. (If what he was saying actually made sense, I [...]

Sunday afternoon anxiety

Every Sunday afternoon, I get a pang of anxiety. I feel it in my stomach – like butterflies. It always surprises me when it hits – I couldn’t figure out what triggered it. It lasts through the rest of the day. I realized that it has to do with school. I would feel like this [...]

Toby does this odd behavior where he will sit and dig at the carpet. He’ll dig vigorously for quite a while – until there are lines in the carpet. He then stops mid-dig, looks at his paws in disbelief, looks up at me as if to say, “Why did I do that? That was completely [...]

ADHD and handwriting changes

I’ve noticed a phenomenon not only in myself, but also in many people that have ADHD. My handwriting can change drastically from day to day, or even situation to situation. I have about four different styles of handwriting. 1. One is when I’m generally pretty relaxed. My handwriting is actually really well done, leans to [...]

Study on polyunsaturated fatty acids and ADHD

A study examined if polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA – Omegas 3,6 & 9) and multivitamins/minerals (MVM) affected cognition in children with ADHD.  Children were divided into three groups: one group had PUFA plus MVM, one group had just PUFA, and one group had neither.  After 15 weeks, they were then all given the PUFA plus MVM [...]

Radio host refers to autistic children as “brats” and “idiots”.

From the New York Times article: On the July 16 installment of his program, which is broadcast every weekday, Mr. [Michael] Savage suggested that “99 percent of the cases” of autism were a result of lax parenting. He told his audience: “They don’t have a father around to tell them: ‘Don’t act like a moron. [...]
