Comments on tonight’s Lost (5/29)

Stop reading if you haven’t seen the episode yet.   Consider yourself thoroughly warned.
I have one word to sum up this episode:  Huh?
My brain is tired.  From what functioning neurons I have left, I was able to come up with the following observations/comments/questions/inane banter:  (Wait, can it really be ”banter” when it’s just me typing?)
1.  So [...]

What I’m watching…

Early this morning I caught the documentary “Yves Saint Laurent: His Life and Times” on the Independent Film Channel.  It’s an interesting look at the relationship between creativity, genius, depression, and addiction.  Even more interesting is that you hear about it directly from Saint-Laurent.
Saint-Laurent started working at Dior when he was 17, and became the head of [...]

Got my copies of the new book today!

YAY! Making the Grade with ADD looks fabulous! (I know, I’m totally biased). So I got to show it off at the office today.
And 10 Simple Solutions is listed as a bestseller at New Harbinger Publications!
And then I came home and had to take the trash cans back from the curb. It’s okay, it keeps me grounded. [...]

Driving behavior in ADHD adults

ADHD adults and a control group were evaluated with a virtual driving simulator. The simulator gave subjects a high-stimulus driving situation and a low-stimulus driving situation, with two periods of monotony. The study found that adults with ADHD were more likely than controls to have a collision with an obstacle during a driving [...]

How do I know I’m ADHD?

People have asked how I really know I have ADHD. I thought it might be helpful to list some of the comments I received on my elementary school report cards. (Thanks to Mom for keeping all of them!)
Granted, I had a lot of positive comments too, but that’s not nearly as exciting.
2nd grade: [...]

What I’m reading now

I usually have about 10 books I’m reading simultaneously, but the one I’ve been focusing most of my attention on is The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene.  I’ll admit it, I was drawn to the book because a) it had a number in the title, b) it’s published by Penguin Books (of which [...]

Can you overdose on sushi?

I had sushi for lunch.  I had a surprise dinner of sushi tonight.  And I’m going out for sushi tomorrow night.  Can one have too much sushi?  So far I’m holding up okay.  And every piece of sushi tastes better than the last one.  Do they have sushi rehab?
A couple of months ago I was [...]

Rate of ADHD and season of birth

Brookes, et al. (2008) examined the relationship between season of birth (which has the unfortunate acronym “SoB”) with rates of ADHD.  The authors found that there was a slightly significant amount of summer births in the ADHD sample compared to the control group.
The authors write…

We also observed a significant association with the 7-repeat allele of the DRD4 gene variable [...]

Time warp and ADHD

I think this might be related to difficulty with time management. I get a lot more done if I know I only have 15 minutes than if I have an hour. And sometimes the quality of my work is actually better when I only have 15 minutes instead an hour. I think [...]

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington

I highly recommend this movie.  TCM must have been doing a Jimmy Stewart movie marathon. I was in heaven. They even showed The Man Who Knew Too Much, another movie I highly recommend.
From 4:29 -4:31, watch Stewart’s hands as Jean Arthur leans back.   Subtleties like that are what made him such a great [...]
