Gold medalist Alex Bilodeau and his brother

Alex Bilodeau earned the first Canadian gold medal in a home Olympic games. Alex’s older brother, Frederic, has cerebral palsy. Alex played hockey when he was young, but switched to skiing so Frederic could also participate.
From the article:
“My brother is my inspiration,” Alex said that night on TV, tears welling. [...]

Aid for Haiti/Contact number for family info

Americans seeking information about family members in Haiti should call the U.S. State Department Operations Center at 1-888-407-4747. There is heavy call volume, so you may hear a recording.
List of charities active in Haiti:

From the U.S. Department of State website:

And this is why I love Anderson Cooper.

Start watching this video around 1:58.   Anderson starts playing with (and talking to) the stray puppies instead of doing his broadcast.  “Hey, you…Hey, you…I’m sorry…” I love his empathy.
I love how Paula Zahn repeatedly tries to redirect him back to the story – she sounds just like an annoyed teacher. “Anderson…”

Anderson and the [...]

Randy Pausch PhD, author of “The Last Lecture” has died.

Dr. Pausch was (and will continue to be) an inspiration to millions. After he was diagnosed with cancer, he continued to live life to the fullest. I highly recommend you watch this video of “The Last Lecture”. There is also a book available.

Radio host refers to autistic children as “brats” and “idiots”.

From the New York Times article:
On the July 16 installment of his program, which is broadcast every weekday, Mr. [Michael] Savage suggested that “99 percent of the cases” of autism were a result of lax parenting. He told his audience: “They don’t have a father around to tell them: ‘Don’t act like a moron. You’ll [...]

Volunteer with the Veterans History Project

The U.S. Library of Congress is seeking volunteers to interview war veterans about their experiences (from WWI to the present Iraq War).  The Library of Congress will then collect and archive the video/audio.
You can interview war veterans and civilians that actively participated in the war effort.
I cannot stress to you enough the importance of recording [...]

Well, that pretty much sums it up.

I was reading on www.msnbc.com that the Iranian photo of four missles being launched yesterday may have been digitally altered.  Apparently only 3 out of 4 rockets went up.  Upon reading the comments on the photo, I came across a comment by one “Hugo the Impaler”:
3 of 4 = 75%  - Iranian Revolutionary Guard missle [...]

This never happened to Ferris Bueller…

A kid who hacked into his school’s computers to change his grades and steal tests was charged with 69 felonies.  If convicted, he could spend 38 years in prison.  Don’t get me wrong, hacking into the school computers, changing grades, and stealing tests was a colossal no-no.  But 38 years?  He should be hired by the CIA/FBI instead.
He’s being held [...]

Earthquake near Chengdu, China

A 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck 60 miles northwest of Chengdu.  I was in Chengdu and Beijing a year ago. My uncle got an email from my friend Amy (who lives in Chengdu), so we know she’s okay.

Happy news…24 hours a day.

I stopped watching the evening news a long time ago. It was too upsetting, and I had also read some research studies where watching traumatic events on the news increases the chances of the viewers being traumatized themselves.
A friend of mine told me about www.happynews.com, a website that gives positive, happy news. I now have [...]
